Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a Christian ministry open to all people, with a vision to eradicate substandard housing in Central Appalachia and inspire a life of Christian service. At Mt. Zion, ASP is one of the ways we put our faith into action—serving others with our hands, our hearts, and our willingness to show up.

Mt. Zion began participating in ASP in 2009 with a team of 15, and it has been a vital part of our mission life ever since. Over the years, youth and adults alike have shared in meaningful work, evenings of laughter and reflection, and the kind of relationships that leave a lasting impact—both within our team and with the families we serve.

Our mission in action

Each summer, we travel to Central Appalachia to help make homes warmer, safer, and drier for families in need. During this trip, lives are changed—both theirs and ours.

ASP is about more than repairing homes; it’s about building something deeper: compassion, connection, and community. We often return home with a renewed passion for serving others, a deeper gratitude for what we have, stronger relationships within our church family, and a clearer understanding that we are all part of the family of God. We meet people where they are and accept them just as they are because that’s how Christ meets us.
